The women’s line
On this record, Tŷ Mawr came down to Nancy Williams from her father and grandfather, and the family’s case for the house ran through her. She never signed a tenancy of the house, she kept the house through the possession proceedings of 1955 and 1962, and she resumed the Williams name in widowhood. After her death her son took up her case.
The next generation’s witness to the house is Branwen, Billy’s wife. In December 1988 a newspaper printed her words on its loss: “Great House Farm was more than just a house, it was the family history with all the people who have been born or died there over the last 400 years. It is irreplaceable.”
The family’s position that the house was theirs is set out here as their position.
